Kilroe Mile the same day. “I think this will be an easier race for him than running seven eighths in the Triple Bend,” said Art Sherman. “Seven eighths of a mile is a very demanding type of race and he hasn’t run in almost six months. Breeding-wise, I always wondered why they never tried the grass with him."

Breaking his maiden, ZITMAN was taken back early close to last and then rallied willingly outside to clear the field and score his maiden victory going 1 1/8 on the turf. He is trained by Agustin C.     Said his owner "He won the 2X [allowance Mar. 12] and he came back and we thought he had pulled something up high, but he had a spiral fracture and they put a screw in. We gave him the right time before his next start and he came back the right way. I think this horse has been a stellar performer. I'm very proud of him. He's a homebred, too. I had the mother, I had the father, and he's just a tremendous horse."

    In Australia BOMBER BROWN, won for 4th going 1600m (about one mile) on  turf rated as good at Fannie-Bay in Australia. Going slightly shorter but also winning down under was THE NICKSTER who won at Gundagai in the Wattle Hire Hcp (C1) on truf rated as firm. It was her second win for trainer Joe Cleary.

    In the US at Gulfstream Park West, EL VEDADO went right to the lead and repelled all challengers to break her maiden going a mile on the turf. The 3 year old filly is owned by Big Lick Farm, trained by Reid Nagle and was bred by Miller Racing LLC.

    Recent G2 Chilukki Stakes winner A KISS TO REMEMBER, a winner of over $750,000, was offered as hip 177 at the Fasig Tipton November sale. She brought $500,000 post sale, going to J S COMPANY LTD. Overall, Kiss to Remember has won seven of 32 starts and $756,191. Her previous stakes scores came in the Battle of New Orleans and Pago Hop at Fair Grounds during her 3-year-old season and the Monroe Handicap at Gulfstream Park in 2015.

    The race just did not play out DORTMUND'S  way. Martin Garcia hustled Dortmund out to the early lead, but last year's Sprint champion Runhappy (Super Saver) overtook the favorite heading into the first turn. Dortmund easily surged past Runhappy with a powerful move, but Gun Runner was shadowing the favorite menacingly and overtook him. It also appeared that Dortmund was having some trouble with the racing surface.

A winner for fun in the TEXAS GLITTER S. at Gulfstream he did it again in the FISHER ISLAND H, wiring the field with ease. He sailed  through an opening quarter in a blazing 20 and change, a half in 43 and change and then drew off impressively in the stretch to win by over 3 lengths finishing up in 53.03.      "I had a perfect trip. He went to the lead and I never looked back," Elvis Trujillo said. AIt was an easy race. I was a passenger today. He's a very nice horse. He did it by himself."

    Trainer Gary Contessa confirmed that Ascot is still on the schedule for his turf speedball. "I trained him a little light for thisrace so I think he got what he needed out of it," Contessa said. "He'll stay down here for a couple of weeks and then we'll go to New York. I believe the plan is still Royal Ascot with him. It will be fun if nothing else."

    IN DUBAI: Every now & then a horse does something unusual and out-performs expectations & typical restrictions, and that's just what Big Brown's daughter BURNT PAVLOVA did at Meydan Racecourse in Dubai on Friday. Not only did she run away from her competition over 2000m (about 1 1/4 miles) on dirt, this 3yo filly defeated older males in the process. The second-placed horse, Tradesman, is a 4yo son of Street Sense who was stakes placed in the USA & out of a 1/2 sister to G1 winner Wedding Toast. Third-placed Bowery, running for Godolphin, is by Bernardini & out of full sister to Street Sense.

    Dortmund breezed  (SEE VIDEO OF BREEZE)  seven furlongs in 1:25 4/5 for trainer Bob Baffert at Santa Anita Sunday morning in what many thought would be his final serious preparation for the Jan. 9 San Pasqual in which he would have faced California Chrome. Baffert decided that Dortmund is not quite ready and has delayed his next start.

     “I missed a little time with him after that second quarter crack and he didn’t really finish the way I like to see him finish,” Baffert said after watching Dortmund work Sunday. “I wanted to see him finish up a little better than he did.

    The ultimate goal for Dortmund is the March 12 Santa Anita Handicap, while California Chrome is scheduled to run in the Dubai World Cup on March 26.  Now, a meeting between the two chestnut colts may have to be postponed until after Chrome returns stateside.

    GSW COACH INGE, who dueled for the lead with Street Babe in the Suburban H. G2  with blazing fractions of :22.80 and :46.13 through a half-mile, six furlongs in 1:10.13 and the mile in 1:35.02. He could not hold on after these fractions, but continued gamely for third. He has earned $436,177 for owner Repole Stable. He was bred by Pail Pompa.

    Further south, Tee Brown ran third in the Louisiana Legends Cheval S at Evangeline Downs for his owner Norman Stables LLC .

    To the west at Los Alamitos, Turnover won an allowance race for Bob Baffert. Turnover is pushing $100,000 in earnings.
